You’re Kind of a Big Deal Banquet Data
On Monday, April 4, the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance, Powered by Flight Night, held the You’re Kind of a Big Deal Banquet at the Greenwood Cultural Center. Educators, Mentors, and Parents all gathered to honor 7th grade students who have distinguished themselves by shown promise/interest in STEM subjects. Here are a few of the stats from the event:

When asked how they felt about their child being nominated for the “You’re Kind of a Big Deal Banquet” parents were very positive, stating:
- “It is great to recognize those who have the desire to learn”
- “It makes her feel positive about her hard work in STEM and I like that!”
- “I am so proud of her and this just reminds her of all of her hard work” and many more.
Parent’s also agreed that the event provided information about STEM careers that they might not have learned elsewhere…
- “Yes. Her focus is science and the tech aspect was new!”
- “She changed her career goal during the speaker’s presentation”

Students were also honored and excited to be nominated to attend the banquet…
- “I feel awesome and grateful that my teacher picked me for it.”
- “I feel pretty honored that my teacher chose me over so many others”
- “I’m very excited”
The mentors at the event provided the students with support and information, students learned…
- “That it’s not always the smartest person who makes the best engineer but sometimes the hardest working”
- “that getting a STEM career is a great opportunity”
- “That there are a lot of cool different jobs in the STEM fields”
Finally, students were asked how this event impacted how they feel about themselves and their STEM classes…
- “It fortifies my thoughts and feelings about this career field.”
- “STEM classes are very important”
- “I enjoy STEM and I think I will enjoy this more and more after this.”
