Good morning. My name is Levi Patrick, and I’m excited to introduce myself to you today as the new Executive Director of the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance. I thought I would send a quick note to those of you who have helped fund the amazing work that Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance has done in the last decade, to say thank you, and to say so many wonderful things have happened over the last decade that I, as an outsider, have just been in awe of. So, to be on this side of the conversation now, as an insider, somebody who is helping to make the work happen in the future, just gets me really excited. If we haven’t had a chance to meet, I want you to know that I am a former math teacher. I was an instructional coach and curriculum designer when I worked at the K-20 Center for Education and Community Renewal at the University of Oklahoma. Most recently, I’ve been at the Oklahoma State Department of Education for nearly nine years as the Director of Secondary Mathematics, Director of Computer Science, and most recently, as the Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. So, I just wanted to let you know that I really, fundamentally believe that STEM is hope, that students who are STEM-ready in our communities are able to live a choice-filled life, and they will see themselves as caretakers and nurturers, as innovators and creators. For me, the most important thing is that they will see themselves as active participants in their community and in this Tulsa region, and in the world, frankly. That they see themselves as somebody who can make a difference. That gets me excited, and I just want to say thank you to all of you who help us make sure that that’s true. I look forward to getting to have a chance to meet with you, to hear about your hopes and dreams for STEM education in the northeast, and to know what we can do together so that we can really make a difference in the lives of our children all around our state. So, I look forward to that conversation coming soon, and I know we can do a lot of good work together. Until then, have a good one.
