GenCyber Teacher Camp

The University of Tulsa is offering GenCyber Tulsa, a cyber security workshop to aid teachers in growing the next generation of cyber security experts. The workshop is funded by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is free to participants. GenCyber Tulsa will commence with a weeklong workshop in June that will be followed by a follow-up session in the fall and by sustained online collaboration throughout the following academic year.
Workshop
- The foundation of the workshop will be Cyber Security First Principles, including abstraction, data hiding, layering, modularity, process isolation, and resource encapsulation.
- Additional topics include cryptography and protocols, critical infrastructure, and wise and safe use of the internet and social media.
- Participants will have the opportunity to visit with professionals in various cyber careers.
- Participants will develop curriculum modules for introducing cyber security topics and careers to K12 students.
- Participants will explore coding and cyber security topics through hands-on activities including drone and robot programming, Raspberry Pi, cryptography, computer gamification and demonstrations of classroom activities.
- The hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm each day with lunch included.
- For best consideration, applications should be submitted by May 11.
Participants
- 30 high school and middle school teachers will be accepted to participate in the workshop.
- Participants will form an interdisciplinary group to address cyber security topics.
- For participating in the workshop and completing the follow up activities, each teacher will receive a stipend and a certificate of professional development.
- Participants must reside in the United States.
- The workshop is primarily for those within commuting distance of Tulsa, OK. Limited travel funds may be available for a few participants.
