Kite Festival Curriculum

Crazy 8s
Crazy 8s is a recreational after-school math club that helps kids enjoy the math behind their favorite activities. It’s math gone wild, nothing like your usual math club! Kids build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret spy codes and play games like Toilet Paper Olympics.
Design Squad Nation
The DESIGN SQUAD NATION website is an online community that grew out of the DESIGN SQUAD television series that aired on PBS KIDS. The site targets kids ages 8 and older and features creative activities, engaging video, interactive games, and exciting contests. In doing so, it gives kids a stronger understanding of the design process and the connection between engineering and the things we all use in everyday life.
Engineering Adventures
Engineering Adventures is a FREE curriculum created especially for kids in grades 3–5 in out-of-school time programs. Students will explore real-world problems—and use the engineering design process to create solutions.

Achieve the Core's Go Math! curriculum prvides guidence for alligning math to college and career standards.

Pixar in a Box is a behind-the-scenes look at how Pixar artists do their jobs. Students can animate bouncing balls, build a swarm of robots, and make virtual fireworks explode. This collaboration between Pixar Animation Studios and Khan Academy is sponsored by Disney.

Designed by the National Academy of Engineering, this fun and informative site celebrates women in engineering and allows girls to explore what engineers do. Additionally, it offers resources to parents, teacher, and mentors.

Aimed at high school girls, Engineer Your Life describes engineering careers through the inspiring work of contemporary young engineers. The site explains what students can do to prepare for college and what to expect in college engineering programs.
Maker Camp
Maker Camp aspires to become a community-built collection of project tutorials by, for, and with the kids who are making the world of the future. In doing so, it inspires students to make more and supports the adults who teach them.

The Cybersecurity Lab is a game designed to teach people how to keep their digital lives safe, spot cyber scams, learn the basics of coding, and defend against cyber attacks. This site includes curriculum aimed at middle and high school classrooms.
F.L.E.E.T.
FLEET is a video game with many competition events throughout the year. This curriculum teaches the underlying engineering and scientific processes that will help students do better in FLEET.

These activities create an environment in which girls are encouraged to indulge their STEM interests through fun, accessible, and interactive learning.
Follow that Bird!
The Smithsonian's National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute offers an inquiry-based unit to teach core middle-school science concepts through student exploration of the tools used by Smithsonian scientists to track birds, the data they collect and how new information is used for conservation.

This site offers a growing number of hands-on activities, videos, and other resources that volunteers, parents, and students can use to explore engineering. The site also introduces national engineering outreach programs.
Engineering Education Service Center
The Engineering Education Service Center (EESC) specializes in providing products for K-12 schools to teach and share the fun of engineering. From curriculum to books, DVDs, kits, apps and other motivational products, EESC aims to make engineering understandable and accessible to everyone.
Engineering, Go For It!
At eGFI (Engineering, Go For it!) you will find a variety of tools to boost students’ math and science skills, enliven classrooms with engineering projects, expand professional horizons and stay informed. eGFI has lesson plans, class activities, outreach program and web resources.
Junior Achievement of Oklahoma
Junior Achievement (JA) offers volunteer-delivered, kindergarten-12th grade programs that foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills.
This program uses experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential. JA students develop the skills they need to experience the realities and opportunities of work and entrepreneurship in the 21st-century global marketplace.
LinkEngineering
The LinkEngineering website is an online community of educators interested in providing meaningful engineering experiences to PreK-12 students of all abilities. This includes – but is not limited to – teachers, teacher educators, and administrators.
LinkEngineering is a resource website that provides examples of engineering in educational settings. It also provides background information on engineering and engineering design.
Museum of Science, Boston
The National Center for Technological Literacy® (NCTL®) has been helping to educate children and adults in a variety of educational settings since 2004. This Museum of Science, Boston initiative is active nationwide via partnerships that seek to raise awareness and understanding of engineering in schools and museums.
One of the world’s largest science centers and New England’s most attended cultural institution, the Museum is ideally positioned to lead the nationwide effort, bringing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) alive for over 1.5 million visitors a year through its exhibits and programs.
MY NASA DATA Lesson Plans
The collection of MY NASA DATA lesson plans is intended to provide the educator with a variety of specific examples, incorporating a more “teacher-directed” strategy, of how authentic satellite data can be integrated into the curriculum.
The majority of the lessons were developed by classroom teachers to use real NASA data in their curriculum.
Next Generation Science Standards
Next Generation Science Standards identifies the science all K-12 students should know. The National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve have partnered to create these new standards based on the National Research Council’s A Framework for K-12 Science Education.
The standards are rich in content and practice and arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally bench marked science education.
PBS Learning Media
This website offers short clips and lesson plans on engineering (in the science section) by grade level and by state and national standards. The collections include materials for CyberChase, Design Squad, Dragonfly TV, Fetch!, With Ruff Ruffman and other award-winning series.
Project Lead The Way
PLTW is the nation’s leading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) solution in over 6,500 schools across the U.S. It is a 501 non-profit organization that develops STEM curricula for use by elementary, middle, and high schools. Additionally, PLTW provides professional development training for instructors.
TeachEngineering
TeachEngineering is a searchable, web-based digital library collection populated with standards-based engineering curricula for use by K-12 teachers and engineering faculty to make applied science and math come alive through engineering design in K-12 settings.
The TeachEngineering collection provides educators with free access to a growing curricular resource of activities, lessons, units and living labs.
Science Snacks
Science Snacks are tabletop exhibits or explorations of natural phenomena that teachers or students can make using common, inexpensive, readily available materials. They are divided into easy-to-follow sections that include instructions, advice, and helpful hints.
Nationwide Lifts
Nationwide Lifts provides a list of 'Helpful Engineering Games' that give students hands-on opportunities to think like an engineer.
Computer Programming Basics Lesson Plan: Tynker Games
In this computer programming basics lesson plan, which is adaptable for grades 3-12, students use BrainPOP resources (including online coding games) to learn about programming.
STEM Jobs
STEM Jobs offers free curriculums to use to enable students to explore future careers in STEM fields.
