What is the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance?

In recent years, a great deal of focus has been placed on the growing need for more students and employees with backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). With that in mind, the Oklahoma Innovation Institute (OII) commissioned a study to facilitate the creation of a STEM alliance for our region.

Led by the nationally recognized Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES), this effort was funded by the Tulsa Area United Way and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. As a result, the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance (TRSA) was established by the collaborative vision of more than 60 STEM community members from across the state. “Enlightened self-interest” is the glue that allows the TRSA to form and build for the future.

The 60 STEM partners will flourish by having their “enlightened self-interests” satisfied in the following ways:

  • Utilizing a dynamic “mesh network” structure, OII will be able to assist TRSA members in inspiring and nurturing the next generation of scientists, innovators and engineers. These young STEM professionals will leverage the community’s unique research resources and find their home and career in the Tulsa region.
  • TRSA will champion collaborative impact resulting in business / industry and the education community creating new pathways for the highly skilled STEM workforce.
  • TRSA will enable OII to address the research and education needs of our community from both ends of this challenging equation.
