Schools
Now, with M4 Your Way, schools have even more flexibility in how they participate. You can use M4 Games in your classroom, at afterschool clubs, during Family STEM Nights, or in any setting that works best for your students and community—it’s up to you!
Collaborators
By adopting a site, organizations not only invest in students’ academic growth, but also demonstrate community leadership, create meaningful employee engagement opportunities, and help shape a more STEM-ready future for Tulsa youth.
Volunteers
Mentors attend Game Night trainings to try out the games, learn strategies for engaging students, and build confidence before sessions begin. TRSA provides all the materials and support you need to create a fun and encouraging learning environment for students.
Why It Works
Program Structure
Me & My Math Mentor (M4) offers two ways for schools and partners to bring game-based math learning to students. Both models focus on building confidence and enthusiasm for math through fun, hands-on gameplay.
M4 Collaborator
The original Me & My Math Mentor model connects 3rd-grade students with STEM professionals and community volunteers in small groups.
- Out-of-School Time Setting: Sessions take place before school, during lunch, or after school, so students don’t miss core learning while still reinforcing important math skills.
- Game-Based: Students play math games in a low-pressure environment, with a 4:1 student-to-mentor ratio. The focus on fun, small group interaction reduces anxiety and sparks motivation.
- Mentorship: Mentors serve as role models, challenging STEM stereotypes and providing personalized encouragement that large classrooms often can’t.
M4 Your Way
A flexible new version of the program designed for schools and partners who want to bring M4 directly into their own spaces, serving students in 3rd–8th grade.
- Flexible Format: Use M4 Games in your classroom, afterschool clubs, or Family STEM Nights—it’s up to you!
- Program Expectations: Schools host 4–8 events per year, involving at least 30 students. Mentors may include PTA volunteers, peer-to-peer leaders, or community partners.
- Teacher Training & Planning: Teachers attend TRSA training to learn effective strategies and work with TRSA to create a plan for how their school will implement M4 Your Way.
Program Benefits
Our Me & My Math Mentor program offers numerous benefits that help students thrive, including:
Improved Math Fluency
M4 participants demonstrate accelerated academic growth, outpacing their peers on Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments, which evaluate instructional levels and learning gains over time.
Increased Self-Confidence
Pre- and post-program surveys show that by engaging in interactive activities and seeing tangible results of their efforts, students gain a heightened sense of ownership, accomplishment, and self-confidence, reinforcing their belief in their ability to learn and excel.
Reduced Absenteeism
Participating schools observe a remarkable impact on student attendance, with M4 participants exhibiting a higher likelihood of being present on program days, and the program’s positive influence extends further, contributing to a notable reduction in overall absenteeism throughout the year.
Stronger Relationships
Participants report stronger relationships with both adult mentors and peers, as evidenced by pre- and post-program surveys highlighting a sense of community fostered through regular interactions and collaborative learning activities.
Benefits Beyond Math Proficiency
While building a strong foundation in mathematical concepts is a core objective, Me & My Math Mentor (M4) offers a holistic experience that extends far beyond just enhancing math proficiency. Through personalized mentorship from passionate STEM professionals, students gain invaluable life skills that transcend the classroom.
Games & Resources
The M4 Cart is equipped with approximately 20 board games that are standards-aligned for 3rd grade. Mentors will be trained on strategies they can use to support students while playing the games and giving guidance on what topics to cover throughout the year that best align with what students are learning in the classroom.
