Transformative Teaching: Lessons from the OU Biological Station

What motivates students to engage with and learn course content? They must see relevance to their goals, hobbies, passions, and lives. Attendees at this K-12 science teacher professional development retreat will learn about a teaching method, Transformative Experience (TE), that meets those needs. TE will provide you with a new tool to build student learning motivation, helping them see course content relevance and improve learning outcomes. What better way to learn about TE than to experience it yourself at the University of Oklahoma Biological Station?

Drs. Ben Heddy and Mark Walvoord will guide participants to notice and reflect on ecosystem processes to have their own transformative experience, and then provide tools to integrate TE into their own classroom.
