Flight Night STEM Innovator Awards

The Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance and Flight Night are honored to award educators who are finding new ways to impact their students.

Award amount: $2,500.00

One winner will also receive the Overall Vision Award and an additional $2,500.00

Award Categories:

  • Administrator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM
  • High School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM
  • Middle School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM
  • Elementary School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM

Applicant Qualifications:

  • All applicants must be an Oklahoma Certified Teacher on or before August 1, 2019
  • Intend to remain in the education profession for at least three years
  • Currently teach in PreK-12th grade and have taught for at least 2 years
  • Each applicant must demonstrate excellence in STEM education through curriculum
    development, student work and letters of support.

Fall winners will be announced at the Flight Night Charity Event on September 12, 2019.
Awards will be presented to winners at the event.

Overall Vision Award

Middle School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM
Congratulations to Kenneth Cole of Clyde Boyd Middle School for receiving the Overall Vision Award and the Middle School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM! His initiative was a STEM-based elective called Technology Engineering, which gave students hands-on, curiosity-driven experiences in engineering. Once a week, students used their class time on their own projects. Kenneth received $2,500 in addition to the $2,500 that all winners received for their schools.

Administrator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM

In 2013, Darnaby was one of forty-four schools in the United States to pilot the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch curriculum. Since then, it has expanded its programming to include PLTW Launch, PLTW Gateway, PLTW Engineering, PLTW Biomedical Science, and PLTW Computer Science.

High School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM

Holly spent five years working to bring STEM programs to her school district. What originally began as an afterschool robotics club for 5th-6th grade students is now a 5th-12th grade robotics program. Holly also created curriculum for new STEM classes.

Elementary School Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership and Excellence in STEM

Annie created a STEAM lab for her school, and she trains teachers in new ways to use it each month. Through this, she has made STEAM a consistent part of the school curriculum.
