Job Shadowing Day at Explorer Pipeline
May 4 at 8:45 am - 2:00 pm
Explorer Pipeline operates a 1,830-mile common carrier pipeline that transports gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and jet fuel from the Gulf Coast to the Midwest. Through connections with other refined petroleum products pipelines, we serve more than 70 major cities in 16 states. On our system, which has a capacity of 660,000 barrels a day, it takes as few as 11 days to move a barrel of product from the Gulf Coast region to the Chicago area.
With headquarters in Tulsa, Explorer is owned by Phillips 66, Marathon, Sunoco Logistics and Shell.
The Student Job Shadowing program focuses on the young people in the communities we serve and to prepare them for tomorrow’s workplace. Student job shadowing joins Explorer Pipeline and local high schools together by providing students with an opportunity to spend time in a real workplace. Student job shadowing is hosted by our organization to help students gain an inside view of a career field.
The student job shadowing program at Explorer Pipeline allows high school seniors to learn from our professionals and subject matter experts about the skills and competencies necessary to be successful within our industry. They can learn about different jobs in a risk-free environment before choosing a major and beginning college classes. Through their observation during the job shadowing, students can use their experience to guide them in deciding which major and/or career would be best for them or of further interest to them.
A student job shadow experience benefits include:
- Help students recognize the link between academic subjects and actual workplace skills.
- Use phone calls and email in a work environment.
- Demonstrate effective, positive customer service.
- How to dress and speak professionally.
- Be on time and prepared to work.
